4 militants killed in Kupwara gunfight: Army

Kupwara, July 3: Army Saturday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district by killing four militants.
Defence spokesman Lt .Col J S Brar said that troopers noticed a group of ‘heavily armed militants’ along the LOC in Bari Behak Nowgam area of the district last night.
“On being challenged, the militants opened fire on the troopers triggering a gun-battle in which four militants were killed,” he said.He said that four AK-47 rifles were recovered from their person and searches were still on in the area.
Police said that 1-Naga regiment of Army lodged an FIR in police station Vilgam today claiming that four militants were killed in a gunfight in Bungus. They said an FIR number 26 of 2010 under section 307 RPC and 7/27 Arms Act was registered.
In the FIR, the troops said they first killed two militants in Bari Behak and two more militants escaped after being injured. During searches their bodies were recovered in Drangyari forests, the troops said.
