6 Amarnath Yatris killed in road mishap

Jammu/Srinagar, July 3: Six Amarnath pilgrims were killed and two others were critically wounded when their vehicle skidded of the road and plunged into a 200-feet gorge near Ramsu on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Saturday.
Police said, the accident happened when the driver of the vehicle (HR55D-4665) failed to negotiate a sharp curve at Mom Passi killing four passengers on the spot and critically injuring four others. The injured were rushed to hospital, where two of them succumbed to their injuries, official sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Newal Chander, Sudesh Kumar, Arun Kumar, Bhupinder Singh, Tilak Raj and Jagdish Raj-all belonging to Jallandhar, Punjab while the critically injured are Ashwani Kumar and driver Kuldeep Kumar also belonging to Jallandhar. Their condition was stated to be stable, reports added.
The vehicle was part of today's batch of 85 vehicles which left from the base camp of Bhagwati Nagar here for onward journey to Amarnath Cave in south Kashmir.
Meanwhile, five persons were wounded when a Sumo (JK13-9273) collided with another vehicle (DL4CAE-1825) at Galander Pampore.
According to police, the wounded have been hospitalised and a case had been registered.
