Police cooks ‘unidentified gunmen’ theory
KHALID GUL
Islamabad, July 3: Police has blamed unidentified gunmen for the cold blooded murder of three teenagers in Islamabad on Tuesday in its preliminary FIR submitted in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate. Eyewitnesses say the three teenagers were killed by police officials in the lawns of a residential house in Anchidora while they were running for safety after clashes between protesters and the police.
“Some of the miscreants were pelting stones on the policemen and the police and the CRPF were maintaining utmost restraint in dealing with the law and order problem by only resorting to aerial firing and shelling. As the clashes were on in S.K. Colony and Anchidora some un-identified gunmen from the Anchidora side fired on some persons on June 29, Tuesday, at about 4:00 PM. injuring seven of them, three of whom died on their way to hospital,” reads the preliminary report of the police submitted to CJM.
It further reads that all the injured were then rushed to hospital by the protesters themselves.
FIR. no 261/2010 against ‘unidentified gunmen’ has been lodged under Section 157/148/336/427/307 RPC. Another FIR. 260/2010 has been registered against the ‘unidentified gunmen’ regarding the firing on another teenager, Arshid Ahmad, at Mattan Chowk injured in the morning of June 29. Eyewitnesses say Arshid was shot at by CRPF men.
Meanwhile, SHO Islamabad who was earlier appointed as the enquiry officer into the cold blooded murders has been replaced by Deputy Superintendent of Police DPR.
“The enquiry officer today visited the spot of the incident and sought details from the locals,” police sources said.
They said that the locals told the officer that a Rakshak vehicle of police came inside S.K colony and then policemen came down from it near Anchidora lane and first resorted to indiscriminate firing upon the people who were running for safety. They also told him that the policemen then barged inside the house of Ahmadullah Khanday and killed three teenagers including his son in the lawn from a very close range.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Islamabad, Ghulam Muhammad Dar, heading the magisterial enquiry, also visited the families of the deceased youth.
However, Dar said that he only offered condolence and to the deceased families and the enquiry would officially start from Sunday. “On Sunday we will issue notices to all the eyewitnesses of the incident and ask them to get their statements recorded before us,” said Dar.
