Valley remains peaceful: Govt

Srinagar, July 3: The entire valley remained peaceful with no report of any untoward incident from any place, police said today.
According to a police handout, curfew was lifted completely in Varmul, Sopur, Kulgam and Koimoh. Curfew was also lifted in Srinagar except the areas falling under the jurisdiction of four police stations MR Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal and Khanyar.
In Islamabad and Pulwama towns curfew was relaxed for two hours in the morning which passed off peacefully. During the period people came out to buy essentials, police said.
 Minister of state for Revenue and Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani, took stock of the law and order situation in a meeting of officers at Kupwara today, an official spokesman said.
 District Magistrate (DM) Kupwara, Showkat Ahmad Mir informed the minister that the situation in the district was under control. He also briefed the Minister about the situation in Trehgam which he said was under control.
 Earlier, Nasir visited Handwara and reviewed the law and order situation.
 Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Kupwara appealed the people of the district not to pay heed to the rumours and remain calm.
 According to the official handout, day curfew has been lifted in Sopur town, though night curfew would remain in force till further orders.
 Meanwhile, Special Commissioner, North, MS Khan and Special, IGP, North, Pankaj Saxena are camping in Sopur town and monitoring the situation.
 The administration also disbursed ex-gratia cheques of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in the recent firing incidents.
 Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Varmul, Bashir Ahmed today reviewed the situation and also pace of development works in the town, the official spokesman said.
