CAPD depots run out of stocks: Senior citizens
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 5: The Srinagar City Senior Citizens’ Forum today said the ration depots in many areas remained closed on Sunday contrary to the earlier announcement by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD).
A spokesman of the Forum said the CAPD had earlier announced that all ration depots had been instructed by the department to remain open on Sunday for the convenience of the people. “But this is quite amazing that the instructions have been observed in breach,” he said. The Forum alleged that such depots were running out of stocks of essential commodities “and therefore they preferred to remain closed on the date.”
“Consumers at Bemina, Nund Reshi Colony, had to return their homes disappointed after waiting for hours near the ration depots. The storekeepers of the ration depots did not turn up on Sunday. Later, they were told by some locals that the depots were empty,” said a spokesman of the Forum. The spokesman said people were facing lot of hardships due to non-availability of rice, flour and sugar, Kerosene and LPG. “The ration depots are empty and closed,” he said.
