Kulgam gets Rs 66 cr annual plan

Srinagar, July 5: Addressing the District Development Board meeting of Kulgam held at SKICC today, the Minister for Forest and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad who is also Chairman of DDB Kulgam, appreciated the district officers for utilising over 97 percent of the funds on various development works fixed for the last fiscal.
He said that Omar-led coalition government is committed to provide all basic amenities to the people particularly medi-care, education, employment opportunities besides in other sectors coming under the purview of social services.
He said the government has prioritised the works for each district which need to be completed within the stipulated time. Impressing upon the officers to work with added dedication and zeal and utilise the funds allocated for the current fiscal judiciously.
Altaf exhorted the officers to personally monitor the on-going works and never compromise on the quality. He instructed the officers to inform the DDC with regard to any impediment coming in the way of execution of works so that these are settled in time.
Reviewing the last year’s achievements made in the district, an annual outlay of Rs. 6647.99 lakh was approved out of which Rs.1732.28 lakh is the Revenue Component and Rs. 4915.71 lakh as the Capital Component.
The outlay for the financial year 2009-10 of the district Kulgam was Rs. 6202.65 lakhs, an official statement said.
Under the current approved outlay an amount of Rs155.30lacs has been fixed for Rural Development, Rs.1135.22 lacs earmarked for irrigation and Flood Control, Rs.504 has been fixed for General Economic Services and Rs.1768.96 lacs for Social Services for the current financial year in the district.
Earlier, giving out details regarding the achievements recorded last fiscal in the district, the District Development Commissioner, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Khan said that an amount of Rs. 6962.71 lacs against the availability of funds Rs. 7146.50 was incurred on different schemes during the last financial year. Highlighting the progress of the district Kulgam made during the period, the DDC said that in Noorabad constituency Rs. 100 lakhs have been expended on the construction of Sub-District Hospital, DH Pura. He said that Rs.90 lakhs were incurred on the construction of Bushada bridge while Rs.26 lakhs has been expended on the construction of Ashthal bridge and another Rs.100 lakhs has been spent on the construction of Boys Higher Secondary School Kulgam. He also said that Rs.60 l lakhs has been expended on the construction of JNV road and Electricity etc. The DDC further said that 70% work of the newly under construction DC office cum Mini Secretariat has been completed.
Under PHE Sector he said there are 15 schemes in progress under district plan at an estimated cost of Rs. 33.20 crore with the scope of covering 96 habitations out of which 6 schemes are expected to be completed during the current financial year.
Under Health Sector, an amount of Rs. 184.94 lakhs was available during the last financial year against which Rs.184.88 lakhs have been utilized for various works.
The Minister for Social Welfare and MLA Noorabad, Ms Sakina Itoo, MLA Kulgam, Mr. M.Y. Tarigami and MLA, Homeshalibugh, Mr. Abdul Gaffar Sofi highlighted their demands in the meeting for their respective constituencies. The demands mostly include construction of roads, up-gradation of school, setting up of PHCs, posting of staff for health and educational institutions and compensation for flood hit victims.
The meeting was attended among others by, MP, Mr. G.N.Ratan Puri, Vice Chairman, Pahari Speaking Advisory Board, Mr. Mushtaq Bukhari, Vice Chairman Gujjar & Bakerwal Development Board, Mr. B. A. Naz, Vice Chairman, Kissan Development Board, Mr. Rashpal Singh, HoDs and Divisional Officers of various departments.
