`Welcome' Probe
This refers to “Welcome Probe” (GK 29th May, 2010). The contention of the author, characterizing the Chief Minister’s orders to probe into the Machil fake encounter as welcome step, is well taken, but at the same time it won’t work in the democratic set up prevailing in this country. As we all know number of such incidents happened in past and similar number of enquiries were ordered but what happened? Nothing, except further excavating anguish and hatred in hearts of people of the Valley against the so-called Security forces posted in this disputed territory. Everybody is talking about withdrawal of Special Forces Powers Act given to the Security Forces but is anybody listening to it? No, what it means nothing other than that our politicians, MLAs and even Government is redundant and could not represent people of the valley. There is limit to everything but here in Kashmir which was ever labeled as “paradise on the earth”, the Security Forces have crossed every limit. Only instituting enquiries in such gruesome and heinous cases do not work and cannot satisfy people of Kashmir it needs some practical measures starts with immediate withdrawal of AFSPA.
