Govt to introduce drug de-addiction in school curriculum

Srinagar/Jammu, May 31: The government is contemplating to introduce a special subject on “hazards of smoking and drug addiction” in the curriculum from primary to higher secondary level in all schools of the state.
 This was stated by the Education Minister, Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed while speaking at a function in Islamabad district. He asked the law enforcement agencies to strictly implement anti narcotic law to get the society rid off the drug trafficking and addiction.
 A function was held in Budgam under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Rafi.
 Rafi asked the youth to shun smoking and cautioned that strict action would be taken against those violating the Anti-Smoking Act.
 Meanwhile, similar function was held in Sogam Degree College Kupwara wherein rallies and seminars were organised.
 In Rajouri, DC S Jaipal Singh flagged off a rally organized to mark the Day. DC asked the youth to abstain from tobacco and other such products and exhorted the need for generating more awareness among students about the negative impact of such products tobacco
 The Education Department and Drugs & Food Control Organization, Poonch also held a rally at Poonch which marched through the roads and markets carrying banners with slogans like “Smoking kills”, “Tobacco causes cancer”, “stop smoking”.
 In Kargil, Health department organized a programme wherein the speaker highlighted the hazards of smoking and the steps taken by Government to counter the growing menace
 Meanwhile, Haqani Memorial Trust Kashmir, chief patron Syed Hamidullah Haqani today stressed for educating youth about the harmful effects of narcotics.
 Addressing a rally in which students from different Darul Ulooms and schools participated, he said only healthy human beings could make a health society.
