15 BOOKED FOR USING FRUIT RIPENING AGENTS

SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation authorities on Tuesday booked 15 traders at Parimpora Fruit Mandi for allegedly using carbide, a banned chemical for fruit ripening.
 “Carbide is carcinogenic and banned for use in ripening of fruits,” said a SMC spokesman adding the raids were done on the instructions of the SMC Commissioner. 
 Meanwhile, the SMC seized a considerable quantity of polythene bags from various markets in the City.
 The SMC has asked the people avoid use of the polythene bags.
