Govt sanctions Rs 5.99 cr for militancy victims' NOKs

Jammu, June 9: The government has sanctioned Rs 5.99 crore to be disbursed among the kith and kins of civilians killed in militancy related incidents across the state.
The funds will be released for payment of cash compensation in lieu of government job to clear the pending compassionate appointment cases of the next of kins of civilians under J&K (Compassionate Appointment) Rules, 1994 (SRC43 of 1994), a GAD order said on Wednesday.
The sanctioned funds will be distributed to the Deputy Commissioners for its further disbursement among those whose cases have already been cleared.
Around Rs 100 Crore were sanctioned for the payment of compensation among such families in the financial year 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, out of which the district administrations have disbursed an amount of Rs 94 Crores. Around Rs 5.99 Crores remained unspent during the two financial years, sources said adding, additional Rs 5.99 Crores have now been sanctioned by the state.
The order issued by the GAD said the funds released should be subject to the condition that the provisions of Jammu and Kashmir (Compassionate Appointment) Rules, 1994 as amended from time to time are strictly adhered to while incurring expenditure and same shall not be available for diversion to any other scheme.
