Freedom needs sacrifice: Geelani

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, June 9: The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday urged people to demonstrate courage, resolve and steadfastness as, according to him, “Freedom is not given to a nation on platter but it is achieved by offering supreme sacrifices.”
“We can achieve our goal swiftly if we together move ahead in one direction,” said Geelani while speaking at the residence of Masrat Alam Bhat, who was Tuesday released from jail, stressing for unity of thought and action among the people to take the ongoing freedom struggle to its logical end.
Geelani along with other Hurriyat leaders and activists including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Ganai, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Muhamamd Ashraf Laya and Muhammad Yaseen Attayee, felicitated Masrat on his release.
Later Geelani visited SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, where he enquired about the health of Shah Mudasir of Islamabad who was grievously injured in police firing during a protest demonstration.
Geelani said, “About 1500 pro-freedom political detainees are lodged in different jails and 70 per cent of them are serving detention without trial in any court. No case has been registered against them in any court.”
