Govt to review ESMA cases of employees

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, June 11: The state government is all set to review the cases of Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), slapped against more than hundred employees’ leaders during the 12- day strike in April this year, sources told Greater Kashmir on Friday.
They said a committee has been constituted by the Law department to look into the matter. “It will meet on June 22 to review the ESMA cases.”
“We will review the matter on case to case basis”, a senior official said, adding, “There is no set procedure to review of the cases but at the same time lenient view may be taken against the leaders who did not indulge in violence”.
“The meeting has been called following repeated representations by the employees’ leaders seeking review of the ESMA cases. “This was also one of the commitments made with the employees by the Cabinet Sub Committee,” the official added.
However, the employee leaders said that they had no information about any such meeting. “We have not been intimated”, Khursheed Alam of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) said.
He also differed on the number of ESMA cases across the state. “As per my knowledge there are more than 250 cases,” he claimed.
