Varmul youth join issue with Hurriyat (G)
ALTAF BABA
Varmul, June 11: Reacting sharply to the Hurriyat (G) statement on June 9, in which the party had named some youth of the town “for creating mischief by forcing people to observe shutdown without any call from separatists,” a group of youth on Friday joined issue with the party.
Talking to media, the youth said, Hurriyat (G) couldn’t accuse them of working under the influence of some agencies as it was the Hurriyat (G) itself which termed stone pelting as weapon against India.
“How can Hurriyat (G) accuse us of working at the behest of some agencies merely on the basis of our involvement in stone pelting although same has been approved by them” said a youth. He added we had been fighting against the illegal detention of local youth and against the slapping of PSA.
Unlike past, the group faced cameramen without mask and claimed that they forced shutdown in the town on Tuesday only after some youth were arrested by the police. They claimed that they would protest against these detentions in future also.
The row erupted on Tuesday when a local businessman was thrashed by youth for not observing the shutdown. The business community while reacting sharply to the incident had said the town had been ‘hijacked’ by some youth who dictate their own terms. On Wednesday the traders protested against the incident saying they were forced to observe shutdowns even when there was no call from any separatist organization.
