2 cops suspended for kidnapping, extortion

Srinagar, June 12: Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir has suspended two policemen involved in kidnapping and extortion.
Head constable Muhammad Yousuf No. 359/KP and constable Farooq Ahmad No. 301/KP were suspended by DIG, NKR, and strict disciplinary action was ordered against the duo, police sources said.
They said the duo was found involved in the case of kidnapping for extortion of one Irshad Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Aziz resident of Branwari, Kupwara. The incident took place on April 15, 2010.
Sources said that on April 24, 2010, a complaint was lodged by Muhammad Akbar Sheikh son of Abdul Aziz resident of Branwari, Kupwara regarding kidnapping of his brother namely Irshad Ahmad Sheikh by Muhammad Amin Bhat son of Lal Bhat resident of Branwari, Kupwara and others.
The kidnappers were demanding ransom of Rs 6 lakh from Muhammad Akbar in lieu of the release of his brother. Kupwara police registered a case FIR No. 61/2010 under section 392, 384 RPC.
Later on the case was entrusted to Ghulam Nabi Mir Staff Officer to DIG North.
Sources said during investigation prima facia involvement of HC Mohammad Yousuf No. 359/KP (Reader to Additional SP Kupwara) and Constable Farooq Ahmad No. 301/KP (PSO to Additional SP Kupwara) of District Police office Kupwara have been established.
However the involvement of Muhammad Amin Bhat (Shopkeeper), Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat (Shopkeeper bypass road, Kupwara) son of Abdul Wahab resident of Punzwa, Handwara and Khursheed Ahmad Waza alias Sagar son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Laderwon,Kupwara (Shopkeeper college road, Kupwara), who were initially named by the complainant has not been established.
Sources said the accused have been granted anticipatory bail by the Court. However taking strong note of crime DIG NKR has suspended both of them with immediate effect and strict disciplinary action has been initiated, police said. The suspended have been ordered to deposit all uniform/arms and ammunition issued to them by the department, police said.
