Traders voice against ‘nepotism’
SHAFIQ MIR
Rajouri, June 12: The business community associated with cross-LoC trade through Poonch–Rawalakote route here today accused the officials at Trade Facilitation Centre of promoting their “own people” for the trade.
The traders accused the officials at the TFC of nepotism. They alleged that they were facing problems on account of “security checks” at the TFC.
Accusing a senior police official at the TFC of creating trouble for them, the traders demanded immediate shifting of the official. “We are being subjected to harassment on one or the other pretext,” said Pawan Annand, a trader.
He alleged that not just the police officials, but also the civil officers were “subjecting us to harassment.”
“We have brought into the notice of higher authorities the name of the police official subjecting us to harassment,” he added.
Anand said the harassment started when they raised voice against issuing permits on the basis of nepotism. “Most of the permits have been issued to the persons who are not traders,” he said.
Displaying a list, Annand pointed to several serial numbers alleging that they were not the traders, yet they had been allowed to conduct trade.
He alleged that two persons in the list were sons of an official in DIC Poonch. He said they did not have even a single shop in the district.
Despite repeated attempts, no official at the TFC could be contacted.
