Restore human life the dignity it deserves

This refers to the endless killings Muslims are experiencing the world over. Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Philippines, Yemen and Kashmir – everywhere the story is same. Fake encounters during the last two decades in Kashmir are too chilling to be forgotten. It is quite heart rending that the human rights charter adopted by the United Nations has been thrown to winds in this strife torn border state by all those who hold a gun. No one is feeling safe in Kashmir. The way Kashmiris are treated in India is pathetic. What a boy from Rafiabad had to bear in Delhi is enough to explain the plight Kashmiris face outside the valley.
The issue of fake encounters has drawn the attention of several human rights organizations and media all over the world and even in India. The Indian constitution provides basic human rights including freedom of speech and freedom of religion. But it is a horrible fact that Muslims and other minorities are suffering discrimination. Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has worsened the situation. This Act was designed for the North Eastern Indian States in 1958 for a year. Much has changed since, but no amends have been since. Human rights continue to be violated, but government is not serious in saving lives of human beings from getting perished.
By ordering the probe Government is only adding salt to the wounds of the people of Kashmir when people know no one will be found guilty in these so called “probes”. If government is serious and concerned about these issue it should allow independent organizations to probe and should act on the results. This is the high time for all human rights organizations, United Nations and other Islamic countries to intervene and make this killing zone a paradise as it was before. We must restore human life the dignity it deserves.
