AFSPA license to kill Kashmiris: Geelani
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, June 15: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on Tuesday described Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) as a “license for troops to kill Kashmiris. “
Reacting to the recent statement of Army’s Northern Command chief Lt Gen B S Jaswal about AFSPA being a holy book for troops, Geelani said, “This law provides constitutional protection to troopers to commit war crimes and they will never want to be deprived of it.”
He urged the International Human Rights Organizations to take practical steps for immediate revocation of AFSPA.
Geelani alleged that India’s unrealistic approach vis-ŕ-vis Kashmir issue was the biggest hurdle in peace in the subcontinent and root cause of political uncertainty in JK.
“India is intoxicated by its power and its rulers and military officers have been at times giving expression to it in their words. India’s unrealistic approach towards Kashmir was the biggest hurdle in making the subcontinent a more peaceful place and root cause of political uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir.
