Bandipore, June 15: Hundreds of Accredited Social Health Activist workers today staged massive protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office against the alleged official apathy.
 The protesters said 200 workers providing various health services under National Rural Health Mission in the district were not being paid salary on time.
 In a written complaint, they said the Block Medical Officer and Chief Medical Officer were allegedly favoring blue-eyed workers while submitting their progress report and nominations for State ASHA worker award.
 “We protested in front of the Health Minster and Governor at University’s convocation Hall on June 3 when awards were announced. The minister assured justices, but authorities are harassing us and threatening of dire consequences if we didn’t withdrew our demands,” Misra Begum heading the workers said.
 Director Health, Kashmir, Dr. Muhammad Amin said, “The awards were not given after the directorate received complaint from workers. A Committee has been constituted to inquire the issue:” About the salary issue, he said “there is no permanent remuneration or salary system for ASHA workers and they are being paid on performance basis. If there is any harassment or problem in this regard the matter will be looked into and concerned CMO will be informed accordingly.”
