For Jammu police 'All is Well’

Jammu, June 15: While the organized crime is giving sleepless night to the commoners, for police it seems that `All is Well’ as it claimed on Tuesday that the crime rate had witnessed a steep decline in Jammu region since last one decade.
Following the public hue and cry from the last few days over increasing crime rate in the winter capital, the department has given a detailed resume of crime related incidents to contest the observations and allegations leveled by some political parties, including Peoples Democratic Party.
In an official handout, the police claimed the crime incidents like murder, attempt to murder, robbery have shown a steep decline since last ten years. Supporting its claim with official data, the official spokesman said only 34 cases of murder were registered till May 31, 2010 against 427 registered in the year 2001. The handout puts the number of attempt to murder cases till May 2010 to 114 against 720 reported in the year 2001 and the one case of dacoity against seven and 14 registered in the 2001 and 2002, respectively.
“452 incidents of burglary were registered in 2001, 579 cases came to fore in 2009 and in May 31, 2010 it reduced to 220. The cases of robbery in 2001 were 20 and now it was only one,” the statement said.
It added in the under head robbery 20 cases were registered in 2001, 18 in 2002, 23 in 2003, 11 each in 2004 and 2006, 16 in 2007, 13 in 2008, 06 in 2009 and only one case was registered till May 31.
The police handout claimed that the figures clearly show that the crime was at all -time low during last one year.
