Landslides kill 40 in B'adesh

Dhaka, June 15: Heavy rains triggered massive landslides in Bangladesh’s coastal region of Chittagong hill tracks killing atleast 40 people and flattening a number of shanties and make-shift structures.
Four separate landslides struck in Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban areas burying people alive and leaving scores of others missing with heavy rains hampering rescue efforts, police said.
“According to our information so far, atleast 40 people have been killed and a number of others are buried alive in the landslides in four places in Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban”, a police official at the north-eastern Chittagong port city said.
