Dal to get more fountains, Watermasters

Srinagar, June 16: The Dal lake will get more fountains and hi-tech Watermaster machines for effective conservation of the lake, an official handout said.
This was revealed Wednesday when Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand reviewed conservation measures of Dal and Nigeen lakes while chairing 18th Board meeting of the Board of Directors of J&K Lakes and Waterways Development Authority in the City.
The Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Irfan Yasin gave a detailed information about the progress achieved on the implementation of Conservation and Management Programme of Dal and Nageen lakes and the proposed Action Plan for the year 2010-2011, the handout it added.
“In order to augment the mechanized resources of the authority to a level that a lake area around 25 Sq. Kms is efficiently managed, the Board decided that the authority shall procure more Watermasters, skimmers/ harvesting machines and root milling machines, it said.
“In order to improve the levels of oxygen, it was decided in the meeting to install diffuse aerators pumps in the lake. It was decided to install more surface fountains on the stagnant areas to improve oxygen levels.”
The Board also decided to maintain the heritage Nishat Pipeline Bund and puncture the same at different places to ensure free flow of water from Hazratbal Basin to Bud Dal so that the stagnation of the water is removed.
“The Board also decided to license local entrepreneurs to undertake water sporting activities, run jet skii’s, hydrozorbing (surface balloons) to create turbulence in the stagnant areas of the lake as well as promote these activities for tourism,” it added.
The meeting, amongst others was attended by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Nasir Sogami, the Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Commissioner/ Secretary, Planning and Development, BB Vyas, Commissioner/ Secretary, Forest Department, Shantmanu, Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism, Atul Daloo, Director General, Finance, Ravi Magotra, Chief Engineer, UEED, Mateen Tak Additional commissioner, Kashmir, Muhammad Amin and Secretary, LAWDA, Muhammad Hussain.
