‘Total knee replacement done successfully’

Srinagar, June 17: A team of orthopedicians Thursday claimed to have made “first total knee replacement” at a private hospital in the City.
 They hospital authorities said: “The team comprising Dr Irshad Tabasum, Dr Abdul Quyoom and Anesthesiologist, Dr Iqbal Fateh Ali Khan operated upon 60-year-old Taja of Pirbagh who was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for many years.”
 “She was almost bedridden because of severe pain and deformity in her right knee. Her leg had angled outwards at knee and she couldn’t straighten it beyond,” Dr Irshad Tabasum who heads the Joint Replacement and Arthroscopy section of orthopedic department at Khyber Hospital told Greater Kashmir adding the procedure took about 45 minutes.
 The patient, he said, is now able to “walk pain free”.
 “Her deformed leg has returned in the original shape,” Dr Irshad said adding the procedure was conducted at Florence Hospital.
