Militant Killed In Doda

 Srinagar, June 17: A gunfight between security forces and suspected militants broke out in north Kashmir’s Varmul district late Thursday evening.
“Following specific information about the presence of militants in Poshnag (Kreeri) village in Varmul, the Special Operations Group of the police and troops of Rashtriya Rifles surrounded a house in the village this evening,” police said.
 “The holed up militants were challenged to surrender, but they resorted to gunfire at the troops, triggering a gunfight which is still on.”
 Police said two militants were believed to be holed up inside the house which has been cordoned off by the security forces.
 Meanwhile, police claimed to have killed a Hizbul Mujahideen commander in Doda district of Jammu region.
 Police said that the HM commander was killed in an encounter in Behota forest in Marmat area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Doda in the wee hours Thursday.
 Police identified the slain militant as Abdul Qayoom Wani alias Irfan Rashi son of Alam Din Wani of Mangota.
 Police claimed to have recovered one AK 47 with 03 magazines and one pouch from the possession of the militant.
