Hurriyat (G) calls for 1-hour protest today
NO STRIKE

Srinagar, June 17: The Hurriyat Conference (G) has called for state-wide one-hour protest on Friday against the alleged human rights violations by troops and police. The pro-freedom amalgam has, however, asked people not to observe strike and appealed the youth to desist from stone pelting.
The decision was taken after Hurriyat (G) Majlis-e-Shoora met at the Hyderpora residence of its Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani Thursday. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Hurriyat (G) constituents- Tahreek-e-Hurriyat, Muslim League, Democratic Political Party, Tahreek-e-Wahadat Islami, Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Peoples League, Peoples Freedom League and Employees Movement.
“It was decided in the meeting that Geelani sahib and other Hurriyat leaders will protest outside Iqra Masjid Saria Bala here after Friday prayers for one hour, while there would be protests at every district headquarter throughout the state,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar told Greater Kashmir.
“It was decided that no provocative slogan would be raised during the protests and there will be no rally. Also we appeal the youth not to resort to stone pelting,” he said.
Quoting Geelani, Ayaz said, “The protests would be held to attract international attention towards unabated human rights violations in Kashmir. Troops are committing worst kind of rights violations in Kashmir. We appeal UN Secretary General, Amnesty International and Asia Watch to take cognizance of the situation in Kashmir where troops are killing innocent Kashmiris for rewards and promotions.”
The Hurriyat Chairman, while castigating the state government for its role, said, “Due to these people New Delhi misleads international community that everything is alright in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Geelani asked India to shun its ‘obduracy’ and accept ground realities in Kashmir.
