Knowledge must

This refers to the article titled "The spirit of knowledge"(GK 14 June) by Murassa Shamshad. The author has rightly said that people today are obsessed with information which we must not perceive as knowledge. The knowledge which every Muslim has to acquire and which can make a path to paradise easy for us remains the million dollar question. In times of increasing technology and information superhighways, it is important to obtain worldly education. Also as a nation we do need doctors, teachers, engineers, lawyers. But we need people who are knowledgeable about their religion first. What good would it do to us to have a nation of professional people who do not know how to offer prayers or to calculate Zakat or how to perform Hajj? Knowledge is the key to our success. It gives us the power to govern ourselves, our households, and ultimately our communities.
