‘HR violations, dialogue can’t go together’
PARVAIZ RESHI
Ganderbal, June 18: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that human rights violations in Kashmir and dialogue can’t go together, referring to the unabated killings of civilians in police action on protesters. The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) was addressing people after Friday congregational prayers here.
“No bilateral treaty, round table conference and dialogue processes will work. All these exercises are futile unless the growing human rights violation is stopped in Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said.
He said that protection of human rights, demilitarization and withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act was must for sustainable peace in Kashmir. He advised both Pakistan and India to prove their sincerity on the Kashmir issue by initiating talks in which stopping human rights violations, demilitarization and withdrawal of black laws ‘enforced to kill innocent Kashmiris’ are the priorities.
He said that everybody was aware that Kashmir demands freedom and the people of Kashmir will take their struggle to its logical end.
“Our youth have sacrificed their lives not for autonomy or development but for the freedom of Kashmir and we will take this freedom struggle to its logical end, come what may,” he said.
Mirwaiz said that a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured zero tolerance on the issues of human rights violations, teenager Tufail Ahmed was killed in cold blood.
“Killing innocent Kashmiris discloses the real face of Indian democracy,” he said.
Demanding punishment to the army officers involved in the Machil fake encounter and the policemen responsible for killing Tufail Ahmed, Mirwaiz said, “We have lost faith in Indian investigating agencies and some international agency must probe these killings and fake encounters.”
