25 JKLF activists court arrest
GOWHAR BHAT
Srinagar, June 18: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Friday started its court arrest campaign against the ‘rising human rights violations in Kashmir.’ Around 25 persons courted arrest here- the first of a series of district-wise programmes. Soon after the Friday prayers, JKLF supporters led by Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik took out a procession from Maisuma and marched towards Budshah Bridge amid sloganeering where they got on to the police vehicles already present there.
“A total of 25 persons courted arrest today,” a JKLF spokesman told Greater Kashmir. Those who presented themselves for arrest included Malik, Advocate Zaffar Shah, Dr Altaf Hussain, Moulana Showkat Shah, Advocate Nazir Ahmad Ronga,Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, Advocate Bashir Sidiqqi.
Chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared persons, Parveena Ahangar; noted Human Rights activist, Kumar Wanchoo, and several JKLF activists were also arrested.
Earlier talking to media persons, Malik said despite the transition of the armed freedom struggle to a non-violent and peaceful one, India has not responded positively and in fact people have been arrested, persecuted, killed in fake gun-battles and innocent teenagers have been killed.
“Our protest is against all forms of human rights abuses which despite promises continue. We want to attract the attention of the international community and the rights groups towards the situation in Kashmir,” he said, adding that all Kashmiris should rise against the human rights abuses.
Malik made specific mention of Machil killings, sayings the blood of three Kashmiris was traded and then killed in a staged gun-battle.
He said the teenagers Inayat Khan of Dalgate, Wamiq Farooq of Rainawari, Zahid Farooq of Brein and Tufail Matoo of Saidakadal were all victims of State terrorism.
The Front leaders will court arrest in north Kashmir’s Sopur town on Saturday. On Monday, similar programme will be held at Pulwama.
