Investigate killing: Court to SSP
SAMAAN LATEEF
Srinagar, June 18: A Court on Friday directed the Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar to pass appropriate orders for investigations into the killing of teenaged Tufail Ahmad Matoo allegedly in police action in Rajouri Kadal on past Friday.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Muhammad Ibrahim Wani also directed the SSP Srinagar to submit the investigation report within 10 days before the court.
Muhammad Ashraf Matoo father of the deceased Friday filed an application through his counsel Mian Abdul Qayoom before the CJM seeking a direction to the police to initiate formal investigation into the killings of Tufail.
Tufail’s father prayed before the court that SHO police station Nowhatta rejected his complaint citing the reasons that Maharaj Gunj police station is seized of the matter.
Ashraf said since the death of the boy took place within the jurisdiction of the police station Nowhatta, the SHO concerned was duty-bound to receive the complaint, adding that he should proceed with the investigations and arrest the culprits.
According to deceased’s family, Tufail died after he was hit by a tear smoke shell lobbed by police at Ghani Memorial stadium in Rajouri Kadal in old city area last week.
Initially, the police had said that Tufail died after being hit by a stone but post-mortem report of the deceased revealed that he was hit by a tear smoke shell in the head. The killing led to widespread protests across Srinagar city for the three days.
