Let's save our children from becoming a canon fodder
Ever since my retirement in 2007 from J&K, I have been spending my summer months with my children here each year. Immediately after landing here, we like any Kashmiri got disgusted and upset to learn how our innocent youngsters get killed on roadside, sometimes by stones, sometimes by teargas shells and at times by bullets. Ordinarily this should be most unacceptable to all those parents who permit their young kids to fight the security forces with stones, in a medieval style. As a human being I would most humbly pray the parents to restrain their children to stay at home or the school—not to loiter on roadside. Genuine protest on any issue is fully justified, it would be worthwhile if the parents or the separatist leaders themselves could squat the roads instead of sacrificing our young budding flowers, who are least dispensable. This is most unfair and unforgivable by the Almighty God.
Let us go to the other side of the life on this side of the planet. None seems to be interested in the Kashmir issue. Common man here argues that there are a dozen hot spots spread around the world but none of the freedom fighters could achieve their goal on the basis of ethnicity. Tamil Tigers couldn’t bifurcate Sri Lanka, Tibetians couldn’t secede from China; Chechnians couldn’t leave Russia alone. And similarly Balauchis and Sindhis couldn’t secede from Pakistan till date. Moreover, there are a dozen movements going on in Kyrghistan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Philipines and half a dozen African countries besides Palestine. At no spot on this globe could violence win. This seems the overall viewpoint of a European/American living here.
When I read a rejoinder on Dr. Zakir in “Rediscovering humanity and compassion” by Aarzoo Khan, I was amazed to discover that we have a rich crop of unbiased, objective and pragmatic writers. When he discussed the present day Islam in conflict with the original Islam of the prophets, our eyes opened. We need to enlighten our clergy.
