Dar gets SGFI lifetime achievement award

Srinagar, June 1: The School Games Federation of India has given lifetime achievement award to the Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Department, G M Dar for his services and contribution in the development of sports.
The award was presented to Dar by Sports & Youth Affairs Minister of Mahrashtra, Suresh Shetty in Pune on May 30. Dar has been active in sports field from last four decades and has contributed in its development in the state as well as in country.
Born in 1952 at Gamroo, Bandipore, Dar was a wrestler in his youth and participated in national event at Gymkhana, Amravati in 1972 in which he won medal. After completing B.Sc, B.PEd, Dar was appointed as district officer in DYSS in 1975 and rose to the rank of Director.
His works include re-organization of DYSS department and SGFI.
He has been Vice-President of SGFI and chairman of international tour committee of SGFI.
Dar was President Sqay Federation of India from 1989-99 and was again re-elected in 2005.
Meanwhile, Sqay Federation of India has felicitated Dar for the award and hoped that under his guidance Federation would become more vibrant.
Federation has recommended Dar’s name for Hall of fame 2011 to international council of Sqay for consideration.
