Boycott Panchayat elections: Geelani
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, June 19: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah, on Saturday urged people to boycott forthcoming Panchayat elections,
“India uses elections to lend credence to the presence of troops in Jammu and Kashmir. All of us need to realize it and stay away from polls,” Geelani said, while addressing a gathering at Poshawan, Kreeri in north Kashmir, where he had gone to pay tributes to two militants killed in a gunfight on Friday.
He said that National Conference, PDP and Congress demand votes on the promises of providing roads, bridges, water and electricity, “But India projects it as a vote in its favour.”
Geelani accused India of using “comprehensive conspiracies” like drug addiction of youth and division of people on the basis of sects to undermine the struggle of Kashmiris.
Geelani said that the movement needs to be made self-reliant. “We need to pool money which could be used to help victims who suffer losses during encounters and other such incidents,” he added.
Asking youth to remain cautious, he said youngsters should not fall prey to drugs or get divided on the basis of sects as these were the part of the “comprehensive conspiracies of agencies to undermine freedom movement.”
He asked the elders, especially the parents of teenagers, to save their children from the menace of drugs.
