Govt approves Rs 49 cr package for displaced persons

Jammu, June 19: Jammu and Kashmir government has approved Rs 49 crore package for distribution of land deficiency compensation among the displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971, Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla said on Saturday.
The minister was addressing a gathering while distributing 424 cheques worth Rs 4.21 crore as land deficiency compensation to displaced persons of 1947 of Jammu province.
He said that the central government headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is making all out efforts to upgrade the socio-economic condition of the displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971.
The minister said that ‘it was the concerted efforts of chief minister Omar Abdullah, that the Centre has enhanced the amount of compensation from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1.25000 per family’. He said the coalition government was fully aware of their problems and all available resources were being utilized to resolve their issues at the earliest. He asked the left out displaced families to approach the concerned department for compensation.
