All-party meet on June 24: Hurriyat (M)
‘Will invite Geelani’
SAMAAN LATEEF
Srinagar, June 20: The Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called for an all-party meet in Srinagar on June 24 “to work out a joint strategy to resist the ongoing civilian killings” in Kashmir.
“Yes we have called an all-party meet on June 24. It will be attended by all pro-freedom groups, Bar Associations, employees’ unions, traders’ federation and members of civil society. We are inviting all of them,” Mirwaiz told Greater Kashmir. “The idea is to get together on the crucial issue of ongoing killings in Kashmir at the hands of men in uniform and evolve a joint strategy on how to resist all this.”
He said the invitation shall also be extended to Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani. “We may have differences on political fronts but the ongoing killings concern all of us, the future of Kashmir and particularly our young generation. Rather than giving separate programmes we should get together for the future of Kashmir and our young generation,” Mirwaiz said.
He said the party was preparing the invitation list. “The meeting venue would be neutral and most probably at Jahangir Hotel in Srinagar,” Mirwaiz said.
Commenting on the issue, Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, said, “Geelani is behind bars. Without him we cannot take any decision on attending the meet.”
