Mercury soars to 45.8 degree Celsius

Jammu, June 20: Jammu region continues to reel under heat wave as the day temperature on Sunday soared to 45.8 degree Celsius as much as seven degree above the normal.The day temperature on Sunday was highest during past seven years, meteorological officials said, adding that last time the mercury reached to 45.8 degree Celsius in the year 2003.
While the scorching heat threw the normal life in Jammu city out of gear, forcing people to remain indoors, the Met officials predict that the mercury would further rise in the coming days.
“There are no chances of any respite from the baking heat as the rising trend in day temperature would continue in coming days,” they said.
The officials said that today’s temperature was recorded at 45.8 degree Celsius, which was the highest ever temperature recoded during this summer season. They put today’s maximum humidity at 44 degree and minimum at 15 degrees.
The rising temperature will take a dip only, if rain lash Kashmir valley in the coming days, the met officials said. However, the present blazing heat, as per the met officials, is also a good sign for onset of monsoon.
