Shameema for upliftment of fisherwomen

Srinagar, June 20: M.L.A. Habbakadal and Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Commission for Women, Shamima Firdous today said that Government has initiated several programmes for upliftment of fishermen and allied communities through various Central and State government schemes.
Shameema was addressing a function at Telbal here after inaugurating one day Awareness Camp for fishermen today. Over 300 fishermen participated in the first of its kind. On the occasion she said that the Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was determined to solve all the problems being faced by the fishermen and other downtrodden communities.
Shameema said that the Women Commission was doing its best to register the grievances of women in general and poor and deserving in particular to solve them in a phased manner. She said that the Commission has been set up to ameliorate the lot of downtrodden communities.
“Despite tough conditions, the fisherwomen work hard work to earn their livelihood. The fisherwomen need to be provided proper place to do their business with honour. Special attention needs to be given towards this neglected lot, she added.
