IUST student’s ‘killing’ triggers protest

Maloora (Bandipore), June 21: Alleging police inaction, hundreds of people staged protest at Maloora on Srinagar-Bandipore road against the ‘killing’ of an Islamic University of Science and Technology student, who was missing from the past 10 days.
The body of Afroza Bano daughter Ghulam Rasool Mir of Maloora was fished out from the Jhelum at Shilwat on Sunday evening.
Raising slogans, the family accompanying the protesters accused the police of cover up.
“The accused arrested in the case are been given VIP treatment in the police station,” said Muhammad Maqbool Wagay.
The protestors threatened of strong agitation if police failed to take stringent action against all the accused
Denying inaction by police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sumbal, Muhammad Tahir said, “We have initiated a probe and five suspects have been arrested on June 11. The investigation will make headway after we will receive the autopsy report.”
