Omar for steps to boost elementary education

Srinagar, June 21: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday pitched for strengthening elementary education infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that all children in the age group of 6-14 years go to schools.
 Addressing a meeting of ministers and officials, the Chief Minister said the focus should be on checking dropout rate at elementary level.
 “Imparting quality education and upgrading infrastructural facilities in schools should be given priority,” he said stressing on rationalising the student-teacher ratio in the educational institutions.
 Omar said that education has been flagged as one of the most important sectors in the development policy. He said schemes for universalisation of elementary education needed to be implemented in a missionary zeal and benefits of these should reach the grossroots.
 The minister for school education Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed and senior officers of the education ministry were present at the meeting.
