Peace, communal harmony vital for development: Vohra

Srinagar, June 21: Governor N N Vohra Monday said sustained peace and communal harmony were vital pre-requisite for the speedy development of the state.
“A peaceful and enabling environment is imperative for ensuring all round growth of the upcoming generations. Peace and communal harmony are a vital pre-requisite for prosperity of the state,” Vohra said addressing the delegates of the four-day national summit of the Gandhi Global Family here.
The Summit, in which 61 delegates from 16 states and a Union Territory are participating will conclude Tuesday. The theme of the summit is “The role of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology in the present scenario of the country”.
Referring to the Gandhian values, the Governor emphasised the need for organising programmes on various aspects of Gandhiji’s life and philosophy, especially in the educational institutions, to create greater awareness among the younger generations about the Mahatma’s philosophy.
The Governor complimented the State President, Gandhi Global Family, S. P. Varma, Chairman of its Advisory Council, M. S Pandit and other activists of Gandhi Global Family for taking several initiatives, particularly for propagating Gandhiji’s philosophy of truth, non-violence, communal harmony, peace, brotherhood and amity in the State.
