Ration shops to remain open from 3 PM to 7 PM: Akhoon

Jammu, June 21: A meeting of officers of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD), Jammu was taken by CAPD Minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon to deliberate upon various issues.
 Listing the reforms being introduced for streamlining the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the state, Minister said that proposal to open more government depots in the state to meet mounting requirement of people is a step forward towards reforming and restructuring of the department.  He directed the officers to ensure that the card holders get prescribed scale of ration. He also asked for making the village level committees functional.  The minister directed for ensuring that the dealers keep their shops open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also display the rate lists at their establishments. He asked the officers to take stern action against the dealers found keeping the ration cards with them. He said that after the Census 2011, comprehensive steps would be taken to revamp the PDS system. He announced that new BPL ration cards will be issued very soon.
