Srinagar, June 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday directed the Cultural Academy and Tourism department to jointly formulate a calendar of cultural events to be organized at various tourist places during the tourist seasons.
“This will help to attract more tourists and showcase the cultural treasure J&K symbolizes,” he added.
Chairing a meeting of the Central Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the Chief Minister, according to an official statement, said harmony is required between the Tourism department and the Academy in making tourist seasons more colourful and attractive.
“You should read from the same page and complement each others activities regarding the promotion of tourism and culture in the State”, he told the officers of the Academy and Tourism Department.
The Chief Minister who is also the President of Academy of Art, Culture and Languages constituted a committee headed by the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Khurshid Ahmad Ganai to look into the matters of constructing a cultural centre “Tehzab Mahal” in Srinagar.
The Secretary, Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Zafar Iqbal Manhas gave resume of the activities of the Academy and explained various agenda points in the meeting in detail. He also presented elaborative account of the performance of CulturalAcademy for promotion of Art, Culture and local Languages.
The meeting was attended by the legislator Muhammad Yousuf Taing, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Commissioner/Secretary Finance Sudhanshu Pandey, Commissioner/Secretary Culture and Tourism Atul Dhullo and other senior officers.
The meeting deliberated upon various issues pertaining to the functioning and strengthening of the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The matters pertaining to the separate section of Balti language at Leh, construction of Integrated Cultural Centre at Srinagar, repairs and renovations of Tagore Hall, Srinagar, construction of Art Gallery at Srinagar, construction of writers club at Jammu, open air theatres at Jammu and Srinagar, vocation of guest house by BOSE at Lal Mandi, repairs of Abhinav Theatre at Jammu and publication of dictionaries were also discussed in the meeting.
