Mechanizations in agriculture pivotal for green revolution: Mir

Padgampora (Pulwama), June 22: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Minister of State for Agriculture, Javid Ahmad Dar today jointly launched “Yenji Shakati Paddy Transplanter (8- row)” in presence of farmers at Padgampora Agriculture Farm on trail basis.
Saying that the mechanizations in agriculture is pivotal for green revolution, the minister said the department has launched this transplantation in his own farm in the first instance to see how much it would be beneficial to the common farmers in terms of cost and yield.
He, according to an official statement, said, “If the mechanical transplantation shows good results in our farms and then it would be recommended for commercial purposes.”
Mir said: “Now our thrust area is to introduce latest technical know-how in agriculture to yield good results in production, helps the farming community to revive their economy.”
He said that both the agriculture universities of the state have been asked to implement their research in the field. He said that “it is the moral responsibility of our scientists to work in a close coordination with the farmers to achieve the target of self sufficiency in agriculture produce.”
Referring the availability of vast agriculture area at Padgampora Farm, the Minister directs the director agriculture, Kashmir for optimum utilization of the area for the cultivation of different varieties of high quality seeds of different crops and added that it should be show case for the farmers of valley. He said the farm have great potential and said “if used scientifically, it would help us for achieving self sufficiency in seed replacement and also helps to create lot of employment opportunities to the local populace of Pulwama”.
Speaking on the occasion, Javid Ahmad Dar said that the present coalition Government has already taken numerous initiatives for the upliftment of Agriculture community which includes exemption of toll tax on agriculture impetus and fertilizers besides provided every support in replacement of high quality and Hybrid seeds.
He calls upon the farmers to come forward and take the benefits of the programs launched by the Government and added that your cooperation with sincerity would help the State to come out from food storages. He asked them to preserve their land holdings for the future generations. He said that “our target should be to yield maximum production from minimum area by way of introducing technology.”
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Main Majeed while giving the demonstration of the paddy transplanter said It would transplant the paddy to 30-40 kanls of land per day and would save the farmer about Rs 1800-2000 as a labour cost per day besides to increase its yield from 15-20 percent.
