Srinagar to host Mukherjee’s ‘martyrdom day’

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, June 22: Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Foundation is observing what it says “Mukherjee martyrdom day” at SKICC here on Wednesday.
Formed last year the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Research Foundation—the BJP’s newly created think tank, is headed by Tarun Vijay, the longest serving Chief Editor of the RSS--mouthpiece Panchjanya.
Vijay joined Panchjanya in 1979. He remained its Chief Editor for nearly 20 years.
The first editor of the 60-year-old Panchjanya was the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He has been asked by the RSS top brass to form the think-tank on the ideological lines of nationalism -- "uncompromising and unapologetic"
It is for the first time that “Mukherjee  anniversary” would be observed in Kashmir.  Mukherjee was a staunch supporter of hardcore Hindu view on Kashmir which called for forced integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
“Mukherjee represented politics of coercion, forced integration, Hindu majoritanism and he was against the powers transferred to Kashmir after 1947. Organizing any function on his name in the valley could have serious political ramifications at a time when the state has narrowly escaped division of state on communal lines,” said a political analyst.
“Allowing any group to organize function on his name in Kashmir means reinventing politics of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee which runs contrary to what peace activists are advocating,” he added.
The Theme of the programme is “Rising India-Challenges of a Troubled Neighbourhood.” The speakers are General (retired) V.P Malik, former Deputy Chief Minister and senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig, former Editor of the Asian Age M.J Akbar, Ambassador TCA Ranachari, Lt General (retired) Aditya Singh, Major (retired) Vinod Saighal, P.Stobdan, and former editor of RSS mouthpiece Organiser Tarun Vijay.
