Army seeks custody of TA trooper

Machil Fake Encounter

UMER MAQBOOL DAR

Srinagar, June 23: The Army on Wednesday filed an application in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sopur seeking the custody of accused Territorial Army trooper arrested in connection with the Machil fake encounter killings.
Police has arrested TA trooper Abbas Shah along with former SPO Bashir Ahmed and Army informer Abdul Hamid for facilitating the killing of three youth of Nadihal, Rafiabad in a fake encounter in Machil sector on April 30.
The Commanding Officer of 161 battalion of TA moved an application today under Section 104 of Army Act 1950, demanding that Abbas Shah be handed over to the concerned unit.
The court directed SHO Panzla to submit a report on Army plea by June 30.
The Army also filed fresh application seeking presence of the co-accused trio for recording their statements.
The court had earlier turned down such plea.
The three victims- Shehzad Ahmed Khan, Reyaz Ahmed and Muhammad Shafi Lone- were lured by the co-accused trio on promise of providing them job on LoC and were later killed in a staged encounter by troopers of 4 Rajput Rifles.
The arrested trio has been booked for abduction and murder under FIR number 23/10 under Section 364, 302,120b and 34 RPC registered in Panzla police station.
