Srinagar, June 23: As life limped back to normal in most parts of the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday, scores of youth took to the streets at Maisuma here and clashed with police and paramilitary CRPF men.
Shops, business establishments, educational institutions and banks reopened after 2-day strike against the killing of Rafiq Ahmed Bangroo and Javaid Ahmed Malla. The situation however remained tense in Maisuma Safa Kadal and other areas in old city throughout the day.
Scores of youth raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans took to the streets at Maisuma this morning and tried to proceed towards Lal Chowk. Police and paramilitary CRPF troopers used force to quell them. Protesters retaliated with stones triggering clashes that continued till evening.
The shops and business establishments remained closed in Safa Kadal. The Rasm-e-Chahrum of deceased Rafiq Ahmed Bangaroo and Javaid Ahmed Malla was observed today and their congregational Fateh-Khawani was held at Wanyari and Martyrs graveyard at Eidgah respectively.
Meanwhile, Police arrested the activists of Muslim Freedom League at Residency Road in city centre when they tried to proceed towards the office of  United Nations Military Observer Group (UNMOGIP) at Sonawar to submit memorandum against rights abuses.
