Govt foils separatist all party meet
Mirwaiz Condemns Arrest Of Geelani, Malik, Others
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, June 24: Hurriyat Conference (M) has strongly condemned the house arrest of its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and restrictions on the political activities of other pro-freedom leaders to foil the proposed all parties meeting on Thursday.
“The Hurriyat Chairman had convened an all parties meeting on Thursday at Mirwaiz Manzil to work out a joint strategy against the killings of students and other human rights violations. But the government placed Mirwaiz under arrest at his Nigeen residence, raided the residences of other pro-freedom leaders arresting dozens of them and putting curbs on movement of several others only to foil the proposed all parties meeting,” said a spokesman of the Hurriyat in a statement today, terming these steps as frustration of the government.
Mirwaiz, according to the statement, said such ‘vile tactics and undemocratic steps’ by the government could not break the determination of pro-freedom leaders and people. “Due to the imposition of restrictions by the government the proposed all parties meeting could not be held today. However, it is being postponed for sometime and will be held very soon after taking all the pro-freedom parties in confidence,” he said.
Mirwaiz has strongly condemned the invocation of Public Safety Act (PSA) against senior leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and continued detention of JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yaseen Malik. He also condemned the arrest of Moulana Muhammad Abdullah Tari, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Ghulam Muhammad Nago and other pro-freedom leaders and activists, demanding their immediate release.
