Hailstorm damages maize crop in Poonch, Rajouri

Rajouri, June 24: The hailstorm in Poonch and Rajouri Wednesday evening has damaged maize crop to a large extent in the twin districts.The affected farmers have urged the government to send its teams to the districts to take stock of the losses and compensate them “as agriculture is the only source of income for us.” The hailstorm, according to the residents, hit the districts on Wednesday evening damaging almost entire maize crop.Muhammad Din of Thanmandi in Bhangai village said his family comprising seven members had no other source of income than the farming.“Not only we eat the maize flour, we also manage the other essential things by selling our maize in the market,” he said.
