Rajouri, June 24: The historic Mughal road will be thrown open on Saturday for the adventurous tourist rally being organised by the department of tourism. A cavalcade of forty vehicles will roll down the road on Saturday.
Authorities said all the arrangements for the rally had been completed and the road shall be thrown open for the rally on Saturday.
This would be the second official rally on this road. The first, a column of eighty vehicles led by chief minister Omar Abdullah, ran over the road in December.
Chief Engineer, Mughal Road Project, Bimal Tikoo told Greater Kashmir that all blockades on the road had been cleared. He said after this rally the road shall remain close for some time so that the remaining work is completed.
“Earlier we had planned to open the road for light vehicles this month but due to the heavy rains the work remained suspended for a long period.”
Tikoo said work on the road was going on in double shifts.
However, this correspondent travelled over 43 kilo meters of the road from Poonch side on Thursday and found that the pace of work was slow and no senior officer could be seen monitoring the work at any place.
Though the road has been made motor-able double-line from Bafliaz to Poshana but the stretch between Chattapani and Ratta Chamb is till a single line.
However, the people of villages on either side of the road were enthusiastic about the rally.
