50 fish farming units come up in Kupwara

Kupwara, June 25: For development of fish culture in private sector and to provide employment opportunities, the Department of Fisheries, district Kupwara has established more than 50 fish farming units in private sector under cent percent subsidy.
During the financial year 2009-10, 19 such units were established in different areas under Border Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) scheme at a unit cost of Rs. 70000. Besides, two carp fish farming units were also constructed under Rashtriya Kissan Vikas Yojana scheme at a unit cost of Rs. 1.20 lakh.
Two trout fish farming units have also been established for the first time in the district in private sector at a cost of Rs. 2 lakh per unit. Trout fish fingerlings were stocked in them on June 25, 2010 and about 1 to 15 tonnes of trout fish is expected from both the units for sale purposes.
