Jammu, June 25: Mystery shrouds the death of an aged Kashmir Pandit couple in Trikuta Nagar here, police said today.
Official sources said the decomposed bodies of the couple were recovered from their house on Friday. They have been identified as Romesh Koul (Retired Inspector PDD) and his wife Rajni Koul.
They said the preliminary investigation reveals that the duo might have died around four days back.
The bodies of the couple, who were living alone in the house, were found nude, when police entered the room, which was locked from inside. “Preliminary investigation suggest that it was a case of suicide as the couple was living alone and was suffering from various ailments since long”, a police officer, preferring not to be named said adding, “However, we are working from various angles to ascertain the fact”.
Station House Officer Trikuta Nagar, Inspector Abid Rafeeqi said the brother-in-law of the deceased was informed by the son of deceased, who is working in New Delhi, that his parents were not responding to the phone calls.
“We rushed to the spot and found the bodies lying in one of the room in decomposed condition”, he said adding the finger prints have been collected, while the postmortem of the bodies would be conducted on Saturday. “We have not reached to any conclusion yet, but postmortem report will clear many things”.
Residents of the locality told Greater Kashmir that the deceased couple was living alone in the house as their only son works in New Delhi with a private company. Rajni was suffering from serious ailments from the last 15 years and health of her husband was also deteriorating with every passing day.
There is every possibility that the couple might have ended their lives due to the long sufferings and loneliness, a local resident said. Police has also ruled chances of dacoity as locks were found intact and nothing was said to be missing.
