Govt resorting to strong-arm tactics: Tariq Kara

Srinagar, June 25: The senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hameed Kara on Friday accused the State Government of resorting to strong-arm tactics against the people to prove its might. He also condemned the wanton arrest of youth and separatist leaders.
 “The Government instead of pondering over the causes of mounting public distress and taking well thought-out measures to address the same, is adding fuel to the fire by letting the police and security forces loose on the hapless people,” Karra said in a statement.
 He said one failed to understand what the Government wanted to prove by rounding of hundreds of teenage youth especially in Srinagar city.
 “Through such an illogical approach of trying to tackle the situation, the Government is not only spoiling the career of these budding youth, but is sowing the seeds of hatred and revolt in another generation,” he said and added that the youth of Srinagar were already undergoing a difficult phase of economic deprivation and social suppression, and herding them into jails is no solution to address their just concerns.
 Blaming the National Conference leadership for the woeful plight of Srinagar and its residents, Karra said, “It is an irony that instead of coming to the rescue of the suffering youth and their families,.
